Some Ramster Information
Framed water colour pictures of the Long Hall at Ramster available to buy – make a great wedding present! Measures 42×33 cm framed with a slot to put your names and wedding date £45.00 or mounted and unframed £30.00. I can email you a picture if you want just get in touch.
The water colour print is also available as a greeting card measuring 17cm x 11cm, perfect for all the thank you letters! Cost £1.00 each including envelope.
HALL RULES and HELPFUL HINTS
Thank you for choosing Ramster Hall for your party. We will do everything we can to make it a happy occasion for you and your guests. Ramster Hall is our family home so we would be most grateful if you would observe the following notes.
PLEASE send your guests a map and a copy of local accommodation with your invitation, as well as the local taxi numbers. I will email you the enclosed accommodation list and map nearer to your wedding date, along with a few other useful things and updated information.
PLEASE DO also inform your guests that stiletto heels are not allowed in the Halls, they do irreparable damage to the polished wooden floors. (kitten heels or those with rubber tips are acceptable) If you are having a barn dance or ceilidh it is essential you ask your guests to wear suitable shoes or supply heel stoppers (see misc suppliers) as a rule any heel less than 1cm is not acceptable.
PLEASE DO NOT put balloons or other decorations on the front gate. The sign on the road clearly indicates the entrance.
PLEASE ensure your guests respect the private areas of the house and grounds. Of course we want your guests to have the best day along with you, but as a host please keep an eye on their behaviour to avoid accidents and upsets! (these usually involve alcohol we strongly recommend you stick to wine, beer and soft drinks at the bar)
PLEASE DO NOT throw confetti or any similar substance, either inside or outside the hall. Bubbles or sparklers outside make an attractive alternative. Equally ‘table confetti’ gets stuck between floor boards and is impossible to clean, and even real petals have to be cleared up afterwards, please consider the bride who comes after you! Please no bubbles inside, if spilt the floor is incredibly slippery and dangerous.
PLEASE note that children get easily bored at weddings and then get up to all sorts of mischief while their parents are happily enjoying themselves. Ramster Hall is not a suitable place for children to play unattended and we cannot take any responsibility for them. There are many dangers in the gardens, ponds and car parks. While we recognise that children are an important part of a family wedding, we do request, for your peace of mind as well as ours, that a qualified person is employed to look after them.
PLEASE make sure your florists do not spill water on our polished floors. They must also adequately protect our furniture and light fittings and not hammer any nails into our property (see conditions of hire). Florists are expected to provide their own step ladders/ sheets to protect floor.
PLEASE DO use our own bottle disposal service unless you want to do your own, this cost £25 and can be added to your invoice.
PLEASE note that we have a locked storage area where items may be left, at your own risk, prior to the wedding. Please ask if you wish to use it.
PLEASE note that we will happily open the hall for delivery of drink or goods if you warn us of its arrival, but cannot sign for items delivered
PLEASE DO check with us that the Hall is free if you, your caterers, florists or wine merchants wish to have access to the Hall the day before your event.
PLEASE note that if you need to be contacted during the function the number of the payphone in the Hall is 01428 656209. The office number is usually on answer phone at weekends. Mobile phones do not always work in the Long Hall area, as it is in a hollow.
PLEASE DO note that we do not mind cars being left on the premises over night, at your own risk, but please collect them by 11am the following day. We highly recommend ordering taxis in advance, particularly on a Saturday night, otherwise guests face a long wait at the end of the party.
PLEASE DO ensure that the Hirer or a responsible person appointed by him/her remains on the premises until the last guest has departed.
PLEASE DO try to use suppliers in this booklet who are local and know us and the halls well, we are not paid any commission by these suppliers, we just like them and they are good!
PLEASE note due to the proximity of the stables we do not allow fireworks.
PLEASE DO take out suitable wedding insurance to cover yourselves in the case of cancellations, this could be caused by 4ft of snow or a broken leg and you will be liable to pay many suppliers.

LIGHTING
If you would like specific party lighting we can arrange this please contact us for information. The strings of fairly lights are owned by us and give an extra lift to the Long Hall. We have remote controlled pin spots on the beams of the Long Hall, so can pin spot the top table and some surrounding (depending on numbers of tables)
TOAST MASTERS
(MASTER OF CEREMONIES)
The Professional Toastmaster ensures everyone is in there correct place in the receiving line, liaises with the photographer and the banqueting staff. He announces the meal and sees everyone is seated before leading the Bride and Groom into the room etc. They can be a useful addition but are not essential.

Mark runs our own in house disco, he is the only disco we allow. He doesn’t automatically come with the hall but will be available if booked in advance and is an additional cost. He can provide mics for speeches, do the music for the ceremony and back ground music as well if you require. The Great Drawing Room has a grand piano as well as a CD player/ Ipod player for civil marriages. The CD player is located on the gallery, if Mark is not doing it you must provide someone to operate the music system, you can plug in an ipod into our docking station, we recommend you do try the music out before the day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…
Can we use the grounds for photos?
Yes, we don’t mind the bride and groom using the garden around the house for photos, please respect the marked private areas and please don’t bring the whole wedding party with you, group shots are best done from the gallery in the drawing room or in the courtyard. Sorry, you can’t use the house for a ‘high’ shot of the courtyard and guests; we recommend your photographer brings a step ladder (at his own risk!)
Technical kit
We have a CD player in the Drawing Room with an ipod docking station, if you want music in the Long Hall and you are using Mark Parker (the discoman) for your music you should be able to use his kit to play music during the meal, but the noise level with chat during the meal is so high it is often not worth it! Sorry, we don’t have any AV equipment, but can recommend a company locally if you want to hire a projector / screen for speeches etc.
Time of departure, band finishing and bar closing.
Our strict time for departure of all guests is 12 midnight, 10 pm on Sundays, the music should finish and the bar will close 15 mins before the departure time. Taxis should be booked for midnight or before.
Confetti
No confetti is allowed, sorry! If you decide to use bubbles you must not hand them out inside, if spilt on the wooden floor it is dangerously slippery.
Payment and cancellation
You are liable to pay the full amount if you have to cancel your wedding 6mths prior to the booked day, you will receive an invoice usually about 2 months prior to the wedding which should be paid well before your booked day. The invoice will be for the full amount of the hire and the deposit will be returned after the wedding day. (if this causes cash flow problems please do get in touch with me).
Stilettos
Metal tipped heels are not allowed, any heels less than 1cm in width at the point can do damage to the floors, all shoes must be in good condition on the tip of the heel with no metal protruding.
From London leave the A3 at Milford and get on the A283 signposted to Petworth. Ramster is 1.5miles south of Chiddingfold on the A283, there are large iron gates on the right hand side. It is approx one hour from South West London, and within easy reach of Guildford, Haslemere, Godalming, Farnham, Cranleigh and Petworth. The nearest station is Haslemere, with frequent services to Waterloo.
